High Five for Friday

More appropriately titled "10 PM? At 10PM I will have been in my pajamas for four hours."

I am going to try High Five For Friday posts again. I like the snippets of reg'lar life that are not interesting enough for an entire post, but worth a mention. Lauren at From My Grey Desk is the brainchild on H54F, and she's young, childless and fashionable. For a taste of the anti-me, go there.

1.  Did y'all know the jean jacket was back? I did not, until Arkansas Emily dropped in a conversation about the new one she just bought. If J. Crew has it, I feel that it is safe to buy (though not at the J. Crew price.) The Easter bunny bought mine this weekend while she was down taking us to a play and picking up my kids. I wore the sh*t out of a jean jacket when I lived in DC. They became uncool, probably long before I retired mine, and I did get rid of it. It had good wear, so boo on everybody who says "if you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it." This is proof positive that some things should be held on to.

2.  When I went back to a full-time office, I had to ask myself what in the hell I was going to do with my boys during school breaks. Like Easter. Camp is an option, but they bitch about it all summer, so it will be the last resort. The Wasband has to work. At $10-$15 an hour, a sitter is preposterous. Thank ya Jesus for grandparents. We have three sets of grandparents - none of whom look like the grandparents in that cartoon - who will all raise their hands for "who wants the boys during the break?" They split the Easter break between my parents (Great Don and Great Clare) and their mom's parents (Mawmaw and Pawpaw). This summer they will also do a week in Florida with the Wasband's parents (Nannie and Pappaw Lynn). All FREE!

3.  I have decided to own two things about myself - that I am not "fun" and I wear cardigans everywhere. As the Wasband pointed out to the boys last week, I am Fun-eee, not to be confused with Fun. I am funny. I think I'm good company and I Have Fun with my friends and my family, and they Have Fun with me. I think of Fun as either a) flamboyant or b) up to experience whatever, whenever. I was Fun Girl once, and I was half in the bag for most of it. I have grown into an adult who schedules her Have Fun time. Like when I asked my friend Michelle six weeks ago to take me to see the Molly Ringswalds tonight. It's a blasty-blast. Scheduled fun. I do not have Bar Clothes, and after stressing about what the hell to wear to see a band at a college bar, I decided f*** it. My preferred outfit involves cardigans, even to the bar. I'm adorable at it. So all hail Scheduled Fun, 80s cover bands, and cardigans.

4.  It's baseball season. Landen plays at the YMCA, and we love it. Six Saturdays. Great kids and coaches. Good environment. We have some attitude issues we're working through with The Mouth of the South right now. He knows more than anybody does about baseball. Period. I went to practice with him and stood practically on the field, arms crossed, death stare maintained, and he was very obedient and cooperative with his coaches that day. And my kid's round bottom, courtesy of his dad, is the cutest ever in baseball pants.

5.  Remember that I'm selling my house and downsizing my belongings? We have a neighborhood garage sale next Saturday, the 13th. I am donating all of my minutia to the Goodwill, but I've been pulling the nicer things that will score me a buck or two, along with some furniture and hoity-toity home and personal accessories. I needs the cash. If you live in BR and want to know where the garage sale is, email or send me a FB message and I'll tell you where. Here is some of my lighter fare. Purging feels niiiiice.

Happy weekend, peeps! Have lots of Nell-type fun - be-spectacled, cardigan-donned, wine-in-her-purse-in-a-college-bar, singing "Jesse's Girl" loud and proud, up way past her bedtime, not feeling so hot at her son's 8AM baseball game tomorrow.
